About Me

Welcome!

My name is Matthew “George” Georgeson, and I am an Associate Professor of Theater in the Design Track at Frostburg State University. I have over a decade of experience teaching classes such as Intro to Theatre, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Stage Management, Theatre History. I also have extensive experience supporting a full season of main stage productions, mentoring students, and contributing to my University and Professional Association through numerous committees and other leadership roles.

While my focus is in theatrical/entertainment design, I find that practical art and beautiful engineering enhance any and all products and productions. I find personal fulfillment in creating beauty from thin air (or sometimes thick air, depending on who set the hazer). I also find a great deal of joy in teaching design and entertainment technology.

I am a member of United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and have chaired or co-chaired sessions in 2024 and 2023 in ____ and ____, respectively. I have worked in theatre since I was 16 in props, scenery, sound, projection, and lighting. I taught classes while studying at Brigham Young University and the University of Georgia.

Specialties: Lighting design, scenic design, long-term consultation for entertainment products, master electrician, technical direction, drafting, rendering, scenic technology, entertainment rigging
